The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) will be the largest museum in the world. also, known as Giza Museum. the museum is still under construction and it will be opened in the final quarter of the year. The GEM is very near from Giza plateau about 2 kilometers from it. It is sited on 50 hectares (120 acres).
Overview of GEM
To make the design of the museum they made an architectural competition. The competition is considered the second largest architectural competition in the history because the organizers received 1557 entries from 82 countries. The competition was announced in 7 January 2002 and the winner was the company Heneghan Peng from Dublin, Ireland, winning 250,000 dollars. The second winner was Coop Himmelblau.
Location of GEM
The Grand Egyptian Museum is located at Giza Plateau on 50 hectares (120 acres). It is close to Giza Pyramids and the Sphinx, almost 2 kilometers from them and it is part of a new master plan for plateau.
Design of GEM
The Grand Egyptian Museum 's building is shaped like a chamfered triangle in the plan. It is near of the motorway interchange. It is located two kilometers west of the pyramids. The museum has large plaza filled with date plants in front of the building and the southern and northern walls of the museum line up directly with the Great Pyramid of Khufu and the Pyramid of Menkaure. The translucent stone wall which made of alabaster is one of the basic features of the museum, that makes up the front façade of the building. Inside the main entrance is large atrium, where large statues will be exhibited.
Exhibits of GEM
The museum will exhibit about one third of the total museum grounds displaying over than 100,000 artifacts from different and various historical periods. The principal attraction in the museum will be the exhibition of the full tomb collection of king Tutankhamen which consists of 5,000 items in total and it will be relocated from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. other artifacts will be relocated from storages and museums in Luxor, Minya, Sohag, Assiut, Beni Suef, Fayoum, the Delta and Alexandria.

The Grand Egyptian Museum or Giza Museum will be an international gateway of communication between museums from all over the world. it will have a world-class conference center, children museum, training center, workshops and etc. in addition to being the largest museum in the world dedicated to a single civilization and a world class museum.

Recently, the official authorities announced that the ticket price for foreigners will be 400 EGP, around $25 and there is a discount 50 percent for students.
